Liverpool takes top spot back after beating Burnley

Liverpool FC briefly lost the top spot on the Premier League table, after Manchester City won the opening match of this weekend. After a hard-fought victory over Burnley, Liverpool wrestled the top spot back. After 24 matches played, Liverpool is on 54 points! Manchester City is on 52 from 23 matches and Arsenal on 49 from 23 matches. This season has a special feeling for Liverpool after the announcement that Klopp will leave the club in the summer. All Reds will be united to give him an amazing send off with a few trophies. Liverpool tickets are in very high demand ever since the German manager made his announcement. Especially tickets for the Carabao Cup final later this month are going crazy now. Every Liverpool fan wants to attend this match which might win Klopp his final trophy at the club.

Tough first half

Even tho Burnley is in the bottom part of the Premier League table, Vincent Kompany’s team is always a tough opponent. Also for Liverpool at Anfield Road. After 30 minutes, the home team was finally able to take the lead, but in the most surprising way you could think of. A corner by Trent Alexander-Arnold was headed against the back of the next by Diogo Jota. The Portguese attacker who isn’t familiair for his height, headed the ball perfectly. When the dust settled and Liverpool looked to bring a 1-0 lead back to the dressing room, it was Dara O’Shea who scored the equaliser. A bitter disappointment for Liverpool on the verge of half-time.

Second half

After a bit of confusion Luis Diaz, headed Liverpool to a 2-1 lead. Even a lengthy VAR check, couldn’t help Burnley in this situation. Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez ended all dbouts whem he scored the 3-1 in the 79th minute. This goal was the last goal of the game that brought Liverpool back to the first place. Now they start preparing to defend this first spot in the away match against Brentford next week.
