Is Chelsea dragged into a top 4 race?

The Premier League top 4 race is a very interesting one. Things chance very quickly in the last couple of races. The first two place are pretty clear; Manchester City and Liverpool will finish in the top 2. Chelsea was destined to finish in third place, but they risk getting dragged back into the race. In this article we discuss how the top 4 race goes.

Arsenal and Spurs

The battle looked to be a battle between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Until both teams dropped some points during the weekend. That was the moment Manchester United all of a sudden got back in the race. While Arsenal was out of form, Manchester United got a victory over Norwich and decreased the gap to the 4th place to only 3 points. In the meantime Manchester United got destroyed on Tuesday by Real Madrid, while Arsenal beat Chelsea on Wednesday. This meant Manchester United is now 3 points behind both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Both North-London teams have a game in hand on Man United. This game in hand is the North-London derby, so it either becomes a gap of 4 points for both teams, or 6 points for one of them. This means it looks like Manchester United is currently out of the race again.

Chelsea

The loss against Arsenal means Chelsea is now just five points ahead of both North London rivals. Chelsea has a game in hand on both teams, so they can increase the gap to 8 points. This should be enough for Chelsea to secure the third spot. With games against West Ham United and Manchester United upcoming, they can get dragged back into the race if they don’t win any of these two matches. It’s going to be a very interesting end of the season for many teams. Especially for Chelsea who want to secure the top 4 for as soon as possible, to shift the focus to the FA Cup final.
