Premier League top 4 race heats up

It’s pretty clear Manchester City is the favourite to win the Premier League this season, with Liverpool as only serious competitor at the moment. Chelsea is the best of the rest at this moment. Multiple teams are playing for a place in the top four and therefore a Champions League ticket. In this article we discuss the latest results in the battle for the top 4.

Chelsea versus Tottenham Hotspur

The most important game in the battle for the top four, was the match between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea started this game in third spot with an eight-point lead over Tottenham Hotspur in 7th place. However, Spurs played four games less, so they could have been above Chelsea by winning all their spare matches. A win in this match was important for both teams. It looked like Harry Kane opened the score, but the goal got cancelled because of a soft push. In the second half Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva scored the goals for Chelsea. Which gives them an 11 point gap over Spurs at the moment.

Arsenal

The Gunners is one of the teams that tries to push for the top four. They are in sixth place with a real opportunity to finally get back into the Champions League. This weekend Arsenal played a home match against Burnley. The Clarets are currently in last place, so not a team that should give Arsenal a hard time. Nevertheless, Arsenal failed to score a goal against Burnley. The Gunners were taking this match very lightly which cost them two important points. They are now in 6th place with 36 points, just two behind Man United in fourth place, who’ve got one less game to play. Arsenal could have been in the top four with a win against Burnley.
