Leicester City road to the Community Shield

Leicester City had quite a journey on their road to the 2021 Community Shield. The Foxes qualified for this match after winning the 2020-2021 FA Cup. In this article we look back at Leicester’s journey during the FA Cup.

FA Cup 2020-2021 Third round

Leicester City joined the FA Cup together with the other Premier League teams in the third round. The draw connected Leicester City with Stoke City. The match was played in Stoke-on-Trent. Leicester City dominated this match from the start and scored four goals against Stoke City. A good result to open their FA Cup journey.

FA Cup 2020-2021 Round of 32

In the fourth round, Leicester City played another away match. This time Brentford was the opponent. Brentford opened the score in the 7th minute, but in the end this match in London was won by Leicester City with 1-3. Ünder, Tielemans and Maddison all scored a goal.

FA Cup 2020-2021 quarter-finals

So far the FA Cup journey for Leicester City goes exactly like you expect from a cup tournament. Every round the opponents get stronger. In the quarter final the Foxes play Manchester United. Kelechi Iheanacho and Mason Greenwood both scored in the first. Leading their teams back to the dressing room with a 1-1 score. Early in the second half its Tielemans with the 2-1 for Leicester City. While Man United hunts for an equaliser, Leicester plays on the counter and Iheanacho decides this match with the 3-1.

FA Cup 2020-2021 semi-finals

In the semi-finals Leicester City plays at Wembley against Southampton. Once again, its Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho who wins the match for Leicester City. He scores the 1-0 in the 55th minute. After this goal the Foxes defended their lead and try to score a goal on the counterattack. The 1-0 score remains for the rest of the game bringing Leicester City into the FA Cup final.

FA Cup 2020-2021 final

The FA Cup final was a very special match. Fans were allowed back into the stadium, and this gave the game something extra. The moment when Youri Tielemans scored the 1-0 for Leicester City felt so special to everybody at Wembley and at home. The sound of fans cheering was unbelievable. Just like a moment late in the match when Ben Chilwell scored the equaliser for Chelsea. Chelsea fans went completely mental until VAR interfered. The goal was disallowed for offside, Chelsea fans went silence, while Leicester City started cheering again. Chelsea didn’t have enough time to recover and score another equaliser.
