Relegation battle in the English Premier League

Last week we wrote about the race for the top four in the English Premier League. Now it’s time to look at the other half of the table. Just like the top 4, the relegation battle is still on in full effect. Realistically the relegation battle is currently one between four teams. Norwich City is officially relegated back to the Championship. They are on 21 points and aren’t able to leapfrog out of the relegation zone.

Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Watford and West Ham United are fighting for the two places directly above the relegation zone. Somehow all four teams managed to win their match on the weekend, which means the difference between these teams stays the same. West Ham United and Watford are both on 34 points, just above the relegation zone. Bournemouth is on 31 and Aston Villa is on 30 points. This Friday West Ham United plays at home against Watford. The team that wins this match will make a huge step towards another season in the Premier League. This match is very important for both teams, but especially for Watford. Their remaining fixtures are Man City and Arsenal, while West Ham plays Man United and Aston Villa.

Bournemouth faces Manchester City on Wednesday while Aston Villa travels to Liverpool to face Everton on Thursday. Bournemouth has Southampton and Everton next, while Aston Villa has to play West Ham and Arsenal. It seems that Bournemouth has the best run-in for the end of the season. Are the Cherries able to pick up enough points to get into the safe zone? It’s most definitely going to be a very interesting end of the season. Four teams fighting to avoid finishing in the relegation zone. Which two teams will manage to stay in the Premier League?
