Manchester United Chelsea preview

The Premier League, returns this weekend with a bang. The moment all English fans have been waiting for has arrived. The best league in the world starts again and we are all excited. To kick-off the first round of games, Manchester United host Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. A decade ago, these two teams were fighting for the title, however, now they are both more focused on reaching the Champions League spots.

Manchester United had an interesting Summer. They improved their defense by signing Wan-Bissaka for 50 million pounds and made Maguire the most expensive defender of all time by paying 80 million pounds for him. United will hope that these two players will greatly improve a defense that struggled in the last couple of seasons. However, United were also linked with big-name midfielders and forwards, such as Fernandes, Erikson, and Dybala to only name a few. However, none of these signings went through, and they also got rid of Lukaku for 72 million on deadline day. This leaves their forward options a little tight, but 17-year-old Greenwood will be used as back up to Rashford after impressing in pre-season. Another important factor that Solskjaer will be happy with is that Pogba is still at the club. The transfer window is still open in other parts of Europe, however, as the English transfer window is closed, and they cannot sign a replacement in it is unlikely Pogba will leave.

This will be Frank Lampard’s first completive match for Chelsea, and he will be gunning to get his first win against United. Chelsea have a transfer ban imposed on them, however, Pulisic has joined the side after they bought him in January, and they made Kovacic loan move permanent. Many players left Chelsea on loan as they usually do, but there were also a few sales. The big sale of Hazard will be felt by the club but let’s see if Pulisic can replace him. David Luiz was sold to Arsenal on deadline day as Lampard saw him as surplus to requirements. This leaves Chelsea with only three recognized center-backs with Rudiger out and will only be back in a few weeks.

This will be an exciting match and will give us some perspective of how ready the two teams are for the season.

Predicted result- Manchester United 2-1 Chelsea.
