Is Dortmund’s season falling apart?

Dortmund seemed to be having a fantastic season, up until January. It looked like they would finally claw the Bundesliga title back from Bayern after they had won it 6 years in a row. However, since the turn of the year, Dortmund’s form has gone down dramatically and have only won one game in five in the Bundesliga. Their latest loss came on Friday where they lost 2-1 to Augsburg. Bayern played a day later and demolished Borussia Monchengladbach 1-5 meaning now that they are level with Dortmund at the top of the table, but Dortmund have a better goal difference.

Dortmund’s Champions League campaign is also over. They were able to pip Atletico Madrid to the top spot on the final game of the group stage. They Drew Spurs in the round of 16 but Dortmund were favorites to progress. The first leg at Wembley was crushing for Dortmund and Spurs were 3-0 winners. It was a big mountain for them to climb to try to progress, and they were not able to do it as they lost the second leg 0-1 and overall 0-4. This will have a damning effect on the player's confidence, however, it could be seen as a positive. Dortmund are also out of the German Cup can now fully focus on the league and put all their efforts into it.

Dortmund need to win the Bundesliga and end Bayern’s dominance. It is boring for the league to see the same team win it every year and not good for the reputation of the Bundesliga. Dortmund have the best chance they have had for 6 years and need to take advantage of it. They need to regain some form and focus on their own performances and not worry what Bayern is doing. Dortmund will face Bayern on the 6th of April, and they need to make sure they are still competing by then and make that game a title-deciding match.
