Champions League draws offers opportunities for English team

The English Premier League enters the Champions League with four different teams. For the first time in years, the number 4 of the Premier League qualified automatically for the most prestige football tournament in the world. Last Thursday evening, the draw for this season’s group stage was made. It’s a tough draw for some of the English contenders, but definitely one with opportunities to reach the knock-out stages.

CL groups English teams

Manchester City won the 2017-2018 Premier League title and therefore the first team we will mention in this article. Pep Guardiola’s team started the Premier League with 10 points from four matches and will compete for all the trophies they play for this season. The Citizens are drawn in Group F which looks like this:

  • Manchester City, England
  • Shakthar Donetsk, Ukraine
  • Olympique Lyonnais, France
  • 1899 Hoffenheim, Germany

Manchester United finished second miles behind Man City in the Premier League and they had a rocky start of this season. Not many people expect them to win the Champions League this season, but you never know with Jose Mourinho. This is the group Man United will play in:

  • Manchester United, England
  • Juventus, Italy
  • Valencia, Spain
  • Young Boys, Switserland
It’s the return of Cristiano Ronaldo in Manchester. This is something really special for the fans of the Red Devils.

Tottenham Hotspur finished in the top 4 for the third consecutive time. This means they are qualified for the Champions League again. The Spurs are drawn into Group B, which is probably the hardest group in the competition this season.

  • Tottenham Hotspur, England
  • Inter Milan, Italy
  • Fc Barcelona, Spain
  • PSV, Netherlands

The Reds from Liverpool finished fourth in the same season they reached the CL final. This year Liverpool is one of the favourites to win the Premier League and Champions League. First they need to survive group C:

  • Tottenham Hotspur, England
  • Napoli, Italy
  • Paris Saint-Germain, Spain
  • Red Star Belgrade, Serbia
