Terrible night for English football in Europa League

The Europa League is the secondary European tournament behind the Champions League. Just like the biggest tournament, the Europa League headed into the quarter final stage. The Europa League final will be played in Dublin, so a perfect little trip for the fans of Liverpool and West Ham United. Unfortunately a trip to Dublin is far away for both sets of fans after the first tie in the quarter finals.

Shock at Anfield

The biggest shock in the Europa League is from Anfield Road. Liverpool took on Atalanta in the first tie. Jurgen Klopp used this match to rest some of his most important players. This is always a good plan until a match gets lost. This time it failed miserably. Atalanta took the lead towards the end of the first half. Jurgen Klopp made four substitutes at halftime in an attempt to change things, but it was all too late. Atalanta tripled their lead in the second half to a comfortable 0-3. A score they happily bring back home to Italy to defend next week.

Bayer Leverkusen just can’t lose

Bayer Leverkusen is on the road to a historical treble. It’s not the big treble, but clearly a special one for Xabi Alonso’s team. They have played 42 matches so far this season and haven’t lost a single one of them. In the match at home against West Ham United it was looking to be a boring draw, until Bayer did what they are known for this season. Their fitness showed towards the end of the season and got them 2 late goals. With a 2-0 lead they will be very confident while travelling to London. After not losing in 42 games, the confidence will be at a peak in Leverkusen at the moment. West Ham United has to be at their absolute best if they want to go through to the semi-finals.
