Haaland brace puts Man City back on top

Two weeks ago Manchester City’s goalscoring machine Erling Haaland made his comeback after an injury. He failed to score in his first two appearances back after the injury, but his third match he was a very important player for Manchester City in their match against Everton. With two goals, Erling Haaland brought Man City temporarily back on top of the table, awaiting the Liverpool versus Burnley result.

Back on the scoresheet

If there is one thing strikers like Erling Haaland hate, it’s going through an entire match without score, let alone blanking for two straight games. After twenty minutes against Burnleuy and 85 against Brentford without scoring, it was about time for Haaland to get back on the scoresheet. For a long time, it was likely Haaland had to go without scoring for another match. Everton’s defensive structure worked perfectly, and they managed to keep Manchester City away from the goal. A deflected corner in the 71st minute, landed in front of Haaland and he didn’t hesitate for a second. He pulled the trigger and scored the important 1-0 for City. In the 85th minute, Kevin de Bruyne put Haaland in front of the keeper, who fired to net his second goal of the day.

Premier League leaders for a few hours

Manchester City is one match behind the most of their competitors at this moment in time. Because they opened this gameweek, they were level on matches for a few hours with the rest. The victory brought them on 52 points, one point above Liverpool and 3 points above Arsenal. Liverpool plays the 3 o’clock kick-off at home against Burnley, a win in that match would relegate Man City back to second with a spare match. We’ve currently in the tensest title race in years. We must go back 10 years, to find a table, where the first 5 clubs are as close together as they are in this season.
