Granit Xhaka World Cup fears

Yesterday we posted a story about how the timing of the World Cup has its effect on the wellbeing and dreams of football players. Today is the last day of club football in the main leagues. Fulham versus Manchester United is the very last Premier League match until Boxing Day. A week from today, Qatar and Senegal open the 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar. Senegal’s most important player, Sadio Mane, is one of the players who might not make it in time.

Badly timed injuries

James Maddison ended up being substituted early in the match yesterday, out of precautionary reasons. Fears that he won’t make it to the World Cup, seem to can be dismissed. At the end of the same day, Arsenal played an away match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Two minutes in that match, Granit Xhaka got injured. He tried to continue his match but couldn’t make it any longer and got substituted in the 16th minute. This is a big worry for the player and his country. Granit Xhaka has been one of the best players in the Arsenal team, which leads the Premier League with a 5-point gap to Manchester City. The Swiss player has been in in the form of his life and wants to go to Qatar in this form, an injury at this moment would be the worst possible timing for him and his country.

Stomach bug

Arsenal manager Mike Arteta explained a stomach bug was going round in the Arsenal dressing room. Granit Xhaka seems to be the biggest victim of this bug. He couldn’t continue the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers but by the looks of it he will be ready to join the Swiss national team for the World Cup in Qatar. It would be a dream of Xhaka to face England somewhere during this tournament. Fans who support his for Arsenal, will book England World Cup tickets to see their player as an opponent when that happens. Maybe it can become the World Cup final?
