The 2013 FA Community Shield will be played on 11 August 2013 at Wembley Stadium, between the winners of the previous season's Premier League and FA Cup competitions. The match will be contested by the 2013 FA Cup winners, Wigan Athletic, and the champions of the 2012–13 Premier League, Manchester United.
Wigan pulled off a shock victory against favourites Manchester City, winning the FA Cup in circumstances reminiscent of the 1988 FA Cup Final when Wimbledon overcame Liverpool. Ben Watson's stoppage-time headed goal produced the "greatest FA Cup Final upset for a quarter of a century"
