Quadruple is still on for Liverpool

The second step towards a possible quadruple, was the FA Cup final. This is the second final in a row Liverpool played against Chelsea. Earlier this both teams played the Carabao Cup final. Liverpool won that final after penalties. This time they played the FA Cup final at Wembley. In this article we talk about the most important events in this match.

Injuries for Liverpool

If you’ve got to pick two players for Liverpool that can’t get injured, you’re very likely to say at least one of two out of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Unfortunately for them and everybody involved in Liverpool, both players left the pitch injured. Salah already left the pitch in the first half. Van Dijk got replaced at the start of extra time. Extra time was needed after both teams failed to score a goal in the first 90 minutes of the game. Two big blows for Liverpool, but both Jota and Matip did well replacing their teammates.

Back to penalties

In many ways this match looked a copy paste of the Carabao Cup final. Both teams tried, but a goalless draw was the result. Even after 120 minutes, no goals were scored in the final. The big difference with the previous final was the goalkeeper situation. Becker was on the goal for Liverpool instead of Kelleher. Tüchel decided to give Mendy the penalties, instead of Kepa. This looked a good decision, when Mendy stopped the fifth penalty of Liverpool, after Azpilicueta already missed for Chelsea. Mason Mount missed Chelsea’s seventh penalty, after which Tsimikas netted the decisive penalty. With this victory Liverpool takes their second trophy of the season. Now they can prepare for the final two Premier League games and the Champions League final.

Community Shield

The Champions League final will be Liverpool's last official match this season. The first official match of last season is already known. Liverpool will face Manchester City in the Community Shield! Community Shield tickets are available on Livefootballtickets.com.
