English Premiership: Bolton 0-0 Arsenal | Blackburn 0-2 Newcastle
Bolton Wanderers 0-0 Arsenal
Arsenal missed out on more vital points as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.
The visitors dropped a place on Tuesday as a result of Liverpool's win over Wolves and needed a victory of their own to reclaim fifth spot.
However, dogged defending from Bolton and a lack of clinical effort up front left Arsene Wenger's men with nothing to show for their efforts after 90 minutes.
David N'Gog almost shocked Arsene Wenger's men in the first half after latching on to a bouncing ball in the box. N'Gog slipped past Laurent Koscielny and was one-on-one with Wojciech Szczesny, but the French winger failed to control the ball cleanly as he pushed his effort just wide of the post.
Robin van Persie came within inches of putting Arsenal in front 10 minutes from time. The Dutchman sailed a late shot toward goal over the head of goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, but it rattled the crossbar and was cleared to safety by the Bolton defense.
The Trotters had a penalty shout down the stretch when Mark Davies found himself through on goal. The midfielder was tugged by Per Mertesacker and tripped up by Szczesny, but no call was given.
The match finished scoreless, dooming Arsenal to a four-game winless run.

Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Newcastle United
Newcastle beat Blackburn 2-0 at Ewood Park on Wednesday night to move up to fifth place in the Premier League standings.
The hosts shot themselves in the foot early in the game, as Scott Dan scored an own goal to give the Tyneside club the lead.
Rovers could have levelled things up just before the break, but Tim Krul saved a David Dunn penalty to keep Newcastle in front.
The score remained at 1-0 until the last minute, when substitute Gabriel Obertan sealed the victory for the visitors with a second goal; the result lifts The Magpies above Liverpool and Arsenal in the table.
