Europa League: Benfica 2-1 Juventus | Sevilla 2-0 Valencia

Benfica 2-1 Juventus

Benfica beat Juventus 2-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League semifinals at the Estadio da Luz yesterday

Ezequiel Garay’s header opened the scoring in the third minute to put the Portuguese side in front but Carlos Tevez levelled matters midway through the second half.

It was the Argentinian’s first goal in European competition since scoring for Manchester United in April 2009.

But Rodrigo Lima added the second for Benfica with a spectacular first-time strike from the edge of the box.

The Portuguese champions held on to take their advantage into the second leg in Turin next week.

Fc Sevilla 2-0 Valencia

Sevilla took a huge step towards reaching the Europa League Final as they defeated Valencia 2-0 in the first leg of their semifinal tie at the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium on Thursday night.

Valencia started better than their La Liga opponents but it was the Andalusian team who eventually scored.

Mbia seemed to have fluffed his control following Rakitic's free-kick from the left side but he managed to back-heel the ball somehow into the net in the 33rd.

And three minutes later Sevilla grabbed the second when Carlos Bacca ran into the area before striking his shot down the bottom corner past Vicente Guaita.

Valencia pushed to get at least an away goal but were unable to find the net throughout the second half.
