English Premiership: Manchester City 3-1 West Brom

Manchester City kept their Premier League title hopes alive after beating 3-1 West Bromwich Albion yesterday at the Etihad Stadium.

Argentinian trio Pablo Zabaleta, Sergio Aguero and Martin Demichellis all scored for the Citizens while Graham Dorrans netted for West Brom.

Zabaleta headed home the rebound as Sergio Aguero’s shot from inside the area was saved by West Brom goalkeeper, Ben Foster after just 3 minutes.

Aguero doubled the lead soon after with a low shot from outside the box as the Argentinian netted his 16th goal of the season and the first since January as it was his second start since he returned from injury.

West Brom hit one back six minutes later in a fast counterattack that Dorrans finished with a perfect volley.

But Martin Demichellis restored the two-goal margin in the 36th as he scored from close range following a corner from Vincent Kompany.

But it was not a perfect night for the Citiznes as David Silva had to be replaced later in the second half with an ankle injury.

"His injury started with a kick some weeks ago and every week he plays in the last game with pain," Pellegrini told reporters.

City remain third in the Premier League table with 74 points, six less than leaders Liverpool and one behind second-placed Chelsea but still hold a game in hand.
