Champions League: Barcelona 1-1 Atletico Madrid

FC Barcelona 1-1 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid earned a well-deserved 1-1 draw against Barcelona at the Camp Nou last night for the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie.

The first half was determined by injuries for both sides. Gerard Pique had to leave the pitch in the 12th minute with a back injury as he fell awkwardly after jumping over Diego Costa when both players were aiming to head the ball.

Marc Bartra substituted the Spanish International who will be out for at least a month.

Atletico suffered the loss of their top-scorer Diego Costa as he had to be replaced by Diego Ribas after just half an hour following a hamstring injury.

The substitution turned out to be crucial as Ribas put Atletico in front with an unstoppable shot from 30 yards out near the hour mark.

But Neymar levelled the game in the 70th minute as he collected a fine pass from Iniesta to send it into the net.

Barca pushed for a second goal but Thibaut Curtois denied the Catalans with an amazing display and left the tie wide open for the return leg at the Vicente Calderon Stadium next week.
