English Premiership: Man Utd 0-3 Liverpool | Spurs 0-1 Arsenal

Manchester United 0-3 Liverpool

Liverpool beat 3-0 arch rivals Manchester United to renew their title hopes yesterday in a game where Steven Gerrard scored two penalties to become the top visiting scorer at Old Trafford in Premier League history.

Rafael handled the ball inside the box in the 33rd minute and referee Mark Clattenburg had no doubt to point the spot. Gerrard sent De Gea to the wrong side and made it 1-0.

The Red Devils improved after going behind and they should have levelled in the 44th when Rooney hit a half-volley from 12 yards only to see Simon Mignolet save the ball.

After the re-start Liverpool had a second penalty given when Phil Jones barged into Joe Allen. De Gea chose the right side this time but Gerrard’s shot was so accurate that he could do nothing to stop it.

A third penalty was awarded for Liverpool in the 78th when Nemanja Vidic challenged Sturridge inside the box. Replays showed there was no contact but referee had already made the call and showed Vidic a 2nd yellow card leaving United one man down.

Gerrard then lost the opportunity of producing a memorable hat-trick as his shot came back off the post.

But Suarez made no mistake when he latched on to Sturridge's pass six minutes from time to secure the victory and complete an excellent performance.

Liverpool move into second place, four points behind league leaders Chelsea but with a game in hand.
