Manchester United reached the last 16 in the Champions League with a game to spare after defeating Bayer Leverkusen. Although Rooney didn't actually score, he gave a stunning performance assisting in the in the 5-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen. This must have ranked amongst the best performances David Moyes has seen during his short stay so far. Antonio Valencia's 22nd minute goal kicked off proceedings for United, Emir Spahic stumbled one into his own goal in the 30th minute. Jonny Evans scored the third goal at minute 65. In group D, Manchester City fanned their hopes of winning their Champions League group by beating Viktoria Plzen 4-2. City's players Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri scored the 2 opening goals, before Tomas Horava and Stanislav Tecl for Plazen, responded. The fate was sealed when Negredo and Dzeko finally grabbed victory in the last 12 minutes. Although a great result, they are still three points behind Bayern Munich, who had achieved a record tenth straight win in the Champions League win in Russia.
