Manchester United reached the last 16 in the Champions League with a game to spare after defeating Bayer Leverkusen. Although Rooney didn't actually score, he gave a stunning performance assisting in the in the 5-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen. In group D, Manchester City fanned their hopes of winning their Champions League group by beating Viktoria Plzen 4-2. The fate was sealed when Negredo and Dzeko finally grabbed victory in the last 12 minutes. Although a great result, they are still three points behind Bayern Munich, who had achieved a record tenth straight win in the Champions League win in Russia.
