Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool

Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium to go five points clear at the top of the Premiership. The first half saw a lively battle between the two teams, with close chances from both sides. Santi Cazorla put the Londoners ahead in the 19th minute. He saw his header hit the woodwork but the rebound came back to him and he managed to volley the ball past Mignolet. Liverpool had a goal disallowed after taking a free-kick too quickly but Aaron Ramsey sealed the victory a minute before the hour mark. He hit a splendid shot with the outside of his right foot from 25 yards out that whistled past Mignolet into the top of the net. Sturridge and Suarez both went close in the later stages but Arsenal saw out the game and take the three points.

Newcastle United 2-0 Chelsea

Chelsea left St.James' Park with no points after being beaten 2-0 by Newcastle. The Blues had won their previous six games but the Magpies took control in the second-half to seal the victory. Yoan Gouffran put Newcastle ahead in the 68th minute, heading in a free-kick from Yohan Cabaye. Chelsea had plenty of chances to level the game, and Mourinho brought on Samuel Eto'o, Willian and Andre Schurrle to try and freshen up the attacking play, but it was Remy who sealed the win for Newcastle, finding the back of the net with a minute left to play. Newcastle's display of solid defending frustrated Chelsea and will be a warning to upcoming opponents.
