Man Utd 1-0 Real Sociedad

Manchester United's 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad elevates them to the top of Group A in the Champions League. The fans at Old Trafford were given a reason to cheer just two minutes into the game. Wayne Rooney worked his way through the defense and unleashed a shot which rebounded off the woodwork. Central defender Inigo Martinez then unfortunately belted the ball into the back of his own net. David Moyes will lament the fact that his team should have been at least four or five up by the end of the game. With Van Persie ruled out due to a toe and groin injury, opportunities were missed by Rooney, Jones, Kagawa and Valencia. Javier Hernandez also had a goal disallowed after being judged offside. Although Sociedad had clear chances, they left empty-handed and with no points at all in the group table, have no chance of qualification to the knockout stage.

CSKA Moscow 1-2 Manchester City

CSKA Moscow took the lead on the half hour mark in this Group D match, but the lead was short-lived and Manchester City went on to win 2-1 to move into second place in the table behind Bayern Munich. Zoran Tosic put the home side ahead after receiving the ball from a Keisuke Honda header. He then superbly chipped the ball over Joe Hart into the back of the net. Moscow were still celebrating when, two minutes later, Sergio Aguero ended up with the ball after a poor clearance in the area by Akinfeev. Aguero nudged the ball home from just six yards out. He grabbed his second goal three minutes before the break. David Silva crossed the ball into the box for Negredo, who then chipped the ball towards the centre of the area to see Aguero direct his diving header in. Negredo had a goal disallowed after he was judged to have handled the ball, and Moscow also thought they'd equalised when Ahmed Musa scored in the 80th minute, but play had already stopped for a foul on Toure.
