Falcao's goal meant he ended the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League run as the competitions top scorer, netting 17 goals in the tournament. His 17 goal total meant he surpassed Juergen Klinsmann's 15 goal record, including an impressive four goals scored against Spanish team Villarreal in the semi final.

Porto dominated the match, with Sporting Braga playing very defensively in the first half. When Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin powered down the left side and put in a cross a minute before half time, Falcao was there to head the ball in the back of the net, bringing his goal total to 38 in all competitions. Sporting Braga improved their attacking play in the second half of the game, but failed to offer any real threat to Porto.
