Germany receive reality check from Serbia 0-1

The stars of Germany got something of a shock from World Cup group D rivals Serbia earlier today. The Serbian side topped off a diligent display of professionally organised tactics with a 1-0 win.Things began to go badly for Germany in the first half when striker Miroslav Klose was sent off for a tackle from behind in the 37th minute. Shortly after this Serbia produced a goal through Milan Jovanovic to stun the travelling German fans. During the second half Germany tried their utmost to get back into the game but failed to produce a significant number of good chances on goal. Their brightest hope came when they hit the post. Later on the Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic made a deliberate handball in the box which presented Germany with the golden opportunity of a penalty. Podolski stepped up to take it, but was unable to convert with the Serbian keeper making a great save. As a result, Serbia gained a slender victory over Germany. Despite this surprising outcome, Germany remain favourites to win the qualifying group. All matches for the World Cup 2010 can be bought here.
