Does Southgate know his best CB partnership?

With the Premier League behind us, the footballing community now slowly will get ready for the 2022 World Cup. At Livefootballtickets.com we see more and more World Cup tickets being sold. Even some World Cup final tickets are already being bought. Some fans clearly have a very good feeling about the chances for their country. The feeling amongst England fans is very divided at the moment. Some fans believe football will come home this winter, others think they will be home early in the tournament. A big reason for these different opinion, is that people feel Gareth Southgate doesn’t know his best team as of yet. The center back pairing is one of the discussion points. Which two or three players should play as CB for the Three Lions?

Options available

There are multiple options for Southgate. The first question will be if he plays with two or three center backs. In the last couple of years he opted quite often for a back three. The defenders he brings with his to Qatar are: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Coady, Eric Dier, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker and Ben White. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier and Luke Shaw are clearly brought with him as wingbacks. Kyle Walker and Ben White quite often play as wingback but are versatile and can be played as center back as well. Conor Coady, Eric Dier, Harry Maguire and John Stones are the specialist CB’s in this team.

Best CB pairing

Harry Maguire has always been a vital part of any Southgate team during a big tournament. His current form however doesn’t seem to be that good. Many English fans even were surprised he made the squad. If they will play with a back three, Kyle Walker is most likely the best candidate for the right sided CB spot. John Stones seems to be a guaranteed starter as well. It’ very interesting to see who will fill the third spot. Is it going to be Eric Dier? Has Premier League leader Ben White got a chance? We will know in less than a week. Book your England World Cup tickets securely online and support the team in Qatar.
