Headache for Gareth Southgate!

A week ago, we posted an article about the right-back position for the England World Cup squad. The recent week things turned badly for England manager Gareth Southgate. The right-back position has been the strongest position in the entire England team. Suddenly it looks like this will be a position to worry about. Somehow a major injury crisis is going around amongst English right-backs. Do you believe England can still manage to do something in Qatar? Reece James

Reece James has been in an immense form so far this season. A tiny injury earlier this season was a slight worry, but now things are turning bad. He’s struggling with a knee injury after rupturing knee ligaments in Chelsea's Champions League win over AC Milan. After a few tests, Chelsea’s medical staff announced the World Cup is a big worry for Reece James. His injury is so severe, there is a serious possibility he won’t make it to Qatar. A big blow for England, Gareth Southgate, but most of all for Reece James himself. With the form he showed so far this season, he was destined to be part of the starting 11 during a World Cup tournament. He played 90 minutes during Euro 2020, but this was going to be his tournament. With the competition for this place, there is nothing to say about what’s going to happen next tournament.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold is seen as the best right-back in terms of attacking qualities. Defensively he’s fragile. That’s the reason why Gareth Southgate already had his doubts about a ticket to Qatar for Trent. Injuries of Kyle Walker and Reece James opened the doors of the plane for him. Now he’s also injured and it’s not clear when he will be ready to play again. His form so far this season, wasn’t exactly top notch. He will need to step up massively, when fit, to get into the plane heading towards Qatar for the World Cup.
