Mixed feeling in Manchester after 1st Premier League weekend

Now the dust of the very first 2022-2023 Premier League weekend has settled, it’s time to look back at the games on Sunday. The day that the Manchester teams got their first Premier League game of this season on the board. Two big clubs, two teams, two different results. In this article we discuss the results of Manchester United and Manchester City at their start of the season.

Manchester United versus Brighton and Hove Albion

Manchester United is ready for a new era. After many different managers, they started this season with Erik ten Hag as their manager. The former Ajax manager has the tough task to bring Manchester United back where they belong. The task is even harder than he probably expected. This first match immediately showed what a job he has on his hands. In the game against Brighton and Hove Albion, he saw a very poor Manchester United. It was clear Brighton is a team with a good manager and a good style of play. Two goals by Pascal Gross between the 30th and 40th minute gave Brighton a 0-2 lead. United tried to get one back in the second half which eventually led to an own goal by Mac Allistar. Things meant the 1-2, but it stayed at this score. Ten Hag starts his tenure at United with a defeat. Fans can book their Brentford v Man United tickets here, to support their team in the first away match of this season.

West Ham United versus Manchester City

The reigning champion was the last team to start this new season. They played away against West Ham United. A tough match against the number 7 of last season. Man City saw rivals Liverpool drawing a day earlier, so this match was the perfect opportunity to immediately create a little gap. Erling Haaland got fouled in the box around the 35th minute, which led to a penalty. It was the Norwegian striker who netted the penalty to get his first Premier League goal on the board. An amazing connection between Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland led to the 2-0 halfway the second half. A great start of the season for Manchester City. Next weekend they play at home against Bournemouth. Man City v Bournemouth tickets are still available.
