After an early elimination by West Ham United in the Carabao Cup, they faced Middlesbrough in the 4th round of the FA Cup. Eventful first half
This match was a battle between the number 4 in the Premier League and the number 7 of the Championship. With the home advantage one can expect Manchester United to dominate their opponent in this match. When Paul Pogba got fouled in the penalty box, CR7 got a penalty kick. The Portuguese star missed the penalty kick but got saved by Jadon Sancho a few minutes later. Controversy in second half
The second half was very entertaining. Especially when Matty Crooks scored the equaliser, after the ball touched Duncan Watmore’s hand when giving the assist. The referee and VAR decided it wasn’t an intentional handball and rewarded Middlesbrough the goal. Manchester United failed to score a winning goal in the remainder of the second half and also extra time went by without a goal being scored. This led to a penalty shootout, where Anthony Elanga was the only player to miss a penalty. This means Middlesbrough eliminated Manchester United in the FA Cup. A great result for Boro who will be ready in the next round. Can they become the surprise of this FA Cup tournament and go all the way to the FA Cup final?
