Champions League draw English contenders

The Champions League draw has been a very entertaining one. An error in the software, led to some strange mistakes during the first draw. That’s why the UEFA decided to redraw three hours the original draw. Four English teams went along in the draw, not all of them were very excited about the redraw. In this article we discuss the draw for the English teams.

Chelsea versus Lille

Chelsea didn’t had much possible opponents. Since they finished second, they couldn’t face Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus. Which left only Bayern Munich, Ajax, Lille and Real Madrid open for them. In both draws Lille came out as the opponent for Chelsea. Which leaves them one of the happier English teams after the draw. Especially since they didn’t go from Lille to Bayern Munich for example. Chelsea will feel confident they can reach the next round with this draw.

Manchester City versus Sporting Portugal

Manchester City were draw against Benfica at the first attempt. A draw that looked a good one for Man City. Benfica is a very interesting team but was considered one of the easier draws. In the second draw Sporting Clube de Portugal was drawn against Manchester City. Another draw which leaves Man City with a huge opportunity to go through to the quarter finals.

Manchester United versus Atletico Madrid

Fans of Man United weren’t too happy about their draw against Paris Saint-Germain. The announcement of a redraw was a positive one of the United fans. Instead of PSG, they will face Atletico Madrid, which will be a very tough opponent. Even though Atletico Madrid isn’t the team they used to be in the last few years, they are a very solid and defensive side. Manchester United needs to be on their best for 180 minutes.

Liverpool versus Inter Milan

Liverpool went from RB Salzburg to Inter Milan in their second draw. A draw that’s slightly less easy for Liverpool. They will be the favourites to win this battle and qualify for the quarter finals, but RB Salzburg looked to be the preferred opponents. It will be very interesting to see if Liverpool can beat Inter Milan both matches.
