Manchester City beats Chelsea in London

This Premier League weekend had a very exciting opening. Chelsea played at home against Manchester City in a game that was going to show us something about the title challenges of both teams. Thomas Tuchel had a few over Pep Guardiola in the last few mutual battles, so it was going to be very interesting to see how they would cope this match. Somehow Pep always seems to struggle to find the right ingredients to beat Tuchel’s Chelsea.

Man City dominance

Manchester City dominated possession pretty much from the start in this match. Even though they were the better team, they failed to produce tons of big chances. After 45 minutes both teams went back into the dressing without a goal being scored. In the second half it didn’t stayed goalless for a long time. Gabriel Jesus opened the scored with a good goal from the penalty box. This was a perfect moment for the neutrals. Chelsea needed to get out of their defense to score a goal.

Offside goal

Within 10 minutes after the Jesus goal, Lukaku put the ball in the net behind Ederson. A signal from the assistant referee showed it was offside. To be sure VAR looked at the situation and he immediately saw Kai Havertz, who assisted Lukaku, was offside. This decision didn’t stop Chelsea from trying to get the equaliser, but they failed to score one. The match ended with a 0-1 victory for Manchester City. Where Pep is happy he finally got the victory against Tuchel. With this result Manchester City is now on 13 points together with Chelsea, Man United and Everton.
