Europa League final preview: Manchester United v Villarreal

On Wednesday the 26th of May, Manchester United and Villarreal play the Europa League final. This is a chance for Manchester United to get another Europa League title after winning this tournament in 2017 against a brilliant Ajax side. For Villarreal it’s going to be their third European final. After winning the Intertoto cup in 2003 and 2004. Villarreal manager Unai Emery is the Europa League specialist, he won the tournament with Sevilla three times between 2013 and 2016.

Manchester United

The Mancunians steadily finished second in the Premier League behind a very good Manchester City. In the Champions League, Man United failed to make full advantage of their great start with 6 points from games against PSG and RB Leipzig. In the remaining four games, they only added 3 points from a home match against Istanbul Basaksekir. Due to these results, Man United dropped into the Europa League. Where they beat Real Sociedad, AC Milan, Granada and AS Roma in their road to the final.

Villarreal

The Spanish side started really well in La Liga this season but dropped of form. This resulted in a seventh-place finish. A result that gives them a ticket for the UEFA Conference League. Something they can avoid by winning this Europa League final. A win in the Europa League means direct qualification for the 2021-2022 Champions League season. Villarreal’s run is very impressive, since they haven’t lost a single match this tournament, while facing Sivasspor, Qarabag, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Red Bull Salzburg, Dinamo Kiyv, Dinamo Zagreb and Arsenal. Can they go this whole tournament unbeaten and win this final against Manchester United? We believe it’s going to be a very exciting final.
