Manchester City versus Brighton FA Cup semi-final

The FA Cup semifinal match between Manchester City and Brighton will be played on Saturday April 6th at Wembley. Manchester City will really want to win this trophy because they have only won it once since their takeover in 2008. The year they won it was in 2011 when they narrowly beat Stoke 1-0 with Yaya Toure getting the only goal of the game. They reached the final against two years later, however, they lost the Wigan in the final 0-1. City have actually won the FA Cup a total of five times, however, the previous four coming in 1969, 1956, 1934, 1904. Guardiola will also be very eager to win this trophy as it is the only domestic trophy, he has not won in England yet. Last year his City team were dumped out in the fifth round by Wigan, with the previous year they lost to Arsenal in extra time in the semi-finals.

Brighton, on the other hand, are entering uncharted waters. In fact, this is only the second time that they have been into the FA Cup semi-finals which is a huge achievement for them. The last time they were in the semi’s was in 1983, and they even made it to the final, which is something they will be looking to do again. The 1983 final was played at Wembley against Manchester United and the game ended 2-2 with Brighton grabbing an 87th-minute equalizer. In those days if a final was a draw then a replay would be played. The second game was played five days later in which United destroyed Brighton 4-0.

Brighton and City have played each other once this season in the Premier League which City won 2-0 at the Etihad. City are currently 41 points and 13 places ahead of Brighton. However, Brighton will be hoping that the table means nothing and that they can produce a brilliant performance and hope that City are having an off day.
