Euro 2020 draw

The draw for the Euro 2020 qualifiers has taken place and the groups have been finalised. For most of the big European nations it is quite a straight forward passage to the group stage of Euro 2020. Especially since the euros have been changed from 16 teams to 24 teams which makes it easier to qualify for it.

This year the introduction of the UEFA Nations League has meant that the winners from the groups in the different divisions are at least guaranteed a place in one of the play offs. Teams from each Nations league groups who have not already qualified for euro 2020 will compete in the play offs. First the group winners will be allocated however, if they have already qualified then it will be moved to the next highest ranked team in the division. I know… its complicated.

England are in group A and have a relatively easy group with the highest ranked opponent is Czech Republic, who are currently ranked 48th in the world. England should top the group with relative ease.

Netherlands and Germany have been placed in the same group as Germany was relegated from their UEFA Nations league group and therefore were placed in pot 2. This should be a slightly tougher group, as the there are two big nations, however, they both should go through.

Another tough group is group E. In the group the teams are: Croatia, Wales, Scotland, Bulgaria, and Azerbaijan. Croatia will probably win the group, and Azerbaijan will probably finish last, however the other automatic place could be taken by the other three teams. It will be tight games between the three of them, and interesting to see who will go through.
