Can Tottenham compete with the big boys

Tottenham Hotspurs do not have the best away record against the top 6 under Pochettino. Spurs only have won three away games out of 21 in the Premier League against their closest rivals. That was a 1-2 victory at the Etihad in 2016, a 1-3 victory at Stamford Bridge last season, and then beating united at Old Trafford earlier this season.

Spurs definitely need to improve their away form against the big six, however, this season their two home games against City and Liverpool have also ended in defeat. This is something that Tottenham need to improve on if they want to challenge their rivals and compete for titles.

Another issue is the Champions League. They have not been performing well and sit third in the group with one point after three games. It will be a tough task for them to make it out of the group. Their best hope is to make sure they can secure third place and move down to the Europa League.

After the international break, Spurs have a tough run of three games, where they face Chelsea at home, then host Inter in the Champions League which is followed by the North London derby against Arsenal. This run of games will be very telling for how Spurs’ season will pan out.

In spite of all this Spurs still sit in 4th place in the Premier League only five points behind City in top spot after 11 matches. This shows that they are still fighting for the top 4. The fact that they did not make any summer signings has been scrutinized by sections of the press for their form against the big clubs. This is because of the unexpected cost of their new Stadium and they did not have a lot of money to spend during the summer and did not find someone for the right price.

Spurs still have a very solid squad with lots of quality and have a very good manager in Pochettino. Spurs last won a trophy in 2008 when the won the League Cup. The team that they currently have, is the best they have had in years and it is time to win a trophy. If they can start beating the big teams then they will be a force to be reckoned with.
