Top tier Leixões plays in the highest division soccer league in Portugal - Liga Sagres. Sixteen football teams are members of the Portuguese Leagues’ top division Liga Sagres, also known as Portuguese Liga, or BWINLIGA. Each of the Liga Sagres teams plays all other teams twice, once at home and once away. Leixões competes in Europe under UEFA for the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, UEFA Intertoto Cup, European Super Cup and potentially the FIFA Club World Cup. Leixoes Portuguese Cup in 1961 and Liga de Honra in 2007. Leixões ranked 6th in the 2008-2009 Portuguese Liga season.
