Man City 2-0 West Ham: Citizens win Premier League title

Manchester City have won the English Premier League title for the second time in three years after comfortably beating West Ham United 2-0 yesterday at the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens went into the final fixture needing just a single point to clinch the title but goals from Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany secured the victory and avoided the kind of drama suffered two years ago.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men took the lead in the 39th minute when Nasri’s effort from outside the box past Adrian into the bottom corner.

Kompany added the second from close range just five minutes into the second half following a Samir Nasri corner.

News from Anfield Road filtered among the fans that Liverpool had come from behind to beat Newcatsle 2-1 but they did not care much as West Ham never looked dangerous enough to trouble Joe Hart.

Fans invaded the pitch after the final whistle to celebrate with the players and pay tribute to their manager, Manuel Pellegrini, who became the first ever South American coach to win the Premier League title.

"It's a great experience," Pellegrini said after the match. "It's not easy to come to the Premier League, the most difficult league in the world."
