Russia’s national football team is run by the Football Union of Russia. Although geographically they are not considered part of Europe, they are part of UEFA, competing for the European Cup. The Football Union of Russia was formed after the collapse of the USSR. In its short history, Russia has qualified for two World Cup and three European Cup Championships. In 2008 the Russian national football team passed the group stages at the European Cup, which is their highest achievement when not including the history of the USSR national teams.
