Gelsenkirchen is home to the famous football club Schalke 04 named after the borough of Schalke. Founded in 1904, the consistent performance of Schalke 04 is the pride of local football lovers who hardly ever miss buying Gelsenkirchen football tickets if the team is playing in the town. Schalke 04 has won seven German Championship titles, five DFB-Pokals, two UEFA Intertoto Cups and one UEFA Cup.
